"Eat Food. Mostly Plants. Not Too Much."
-Michael Pollan
I am a culinary instructor, personal chef, yoga teacher, health coach, wife, mother, runner, and lover of food. I teach people how to eat, how to cook and how to have healthy relationships with food. I don't believe in calorie counting, weighing food or taking the fun out of eating. My philosophy about food and cooking is to use seasonal, fresh, traditional, whole foods prepared simply. I am passionate about quality over quantity when it comes to food. Using seasonal ingredients, in their most natural state and lots of fresh herbs is the quickest way to improve not only your cooking, but also the taste of your food!
We have gotten far away from the source of our food, literally and figuratively. We are losing the intuitive ability to know and understand what foods are beneficial to us. And we are bombarded with advertisements and health claims. It's overwhelming. I don't believe there is one right diet for everyone. What works for one, may not be the answer for another. Rather than try to make clients fit into a prescribed plan, my goal is to help people return to a more balanced, natural way of eating. I strive to help people get back to an intuitive path to eating healthy foods.
My style of eating is plant based. I am not a vegetarian, but carefully choose the source for all of my food when I am able. I prefer lots of vegetables and whole grains, nuts, seeds and tons of fresh herbs. As an amateur gardener, I am trying my hand at growing many of my own vegetables. Those that I don't grow come from the local farmers markets. I have an absurdly large number of cookbooks, though only a handful are my trusted guides. I use recipes as guidelines, swapping out an ingredient here or there, adding in a bit more fresh herbs instead of dried, using a more seasonally available vegetable...adding in more vegetables, a lot more vegetables.
